About
How Is Caterpillar Preparing For The Future Of Carbon Capture?
In an era of evolving emissions regulations and ambitious greenhouse gas reduction goals, you need a solutions provider you can trust for compliance and sustainability. Cat® carbon capture delivers exactly that with scalable, field-tested, and cost-efficient carbon capture technology specifically designed for distributed power and gas compression. Leveraging patented technology and our engineering expertise, Cat carbon capture enables customers to achieve up to 95% CO₂ reduction from engine, genset, or turbine exhaust.
Our solutions are designed for real-world challenges of today’s operations — offering more reliability with fewer emissions, safer results and no harmful byproducts. Simplify your greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction goals and enhance your critical assets with a carbon capture solution engineered specifically for your needs.
Unlock Your Site’s Potential with Cat Carbon Capture
Our solution features proprietary CO₂ temperature swing adsorption (TSA) technology that delivers efficient, cost‑effective carbon capture. This technology leverages a mole sieve-based thermal swing adsorption system that utilizes engine exhaust heat, achieving up to a 95% CO₂ removal rate. With low operating and capital costs, we are achieving capture under $40/tonne and outperforming conventional methods. The system is also scalable and flexible, making it ideal for sites with 5,000–50,000 hp with its low-maintenance, modular design. Even better, you can benefit from tax credits (like US 45Q) and the potential to use CO2 for enhanced oil recovery or sell for industrial purposes.
How to know if Cat Carbon Capture is right for your site?
Our carbon capture technology is ideally suited for most distributed power applications — as well as gas compression operations — particularly at sites with multiple engine assets operating in close proximity. While our primary target market ranges from 1–100 MW, we continue to see interest from larger facilities, especially where clustered engines create efficient capture opportunities. The technology can be applied to smaller engines at the customer’s discretion; however, project economics typically favor applications capturing at least 50 tons per day (approximately 5,000 hp or 3.7 MW). Let us help you evaluate the technical and economic considerations so you can confidently assess your site.
