ELECTRIC DRIVE POWERTRAIN: HOW IT WORKS

Mechanical Energy → Electric Energy → Inverter → Generator → Final Drives

Simply put, the D8 XE's electric drive powertrain converts mechanical energy into electric energy. The inverter acts as a bridge to the generator, which powers the final drives. Electric Drive uses up to 10%¹ less fuel than its standard equivalent. With electric drive, there are no gears to shift. Power to the ground is continuously optimized whether the machine is traveling or mid-push. Forward momentum continues throughout the push for faster cycle times. Operators just choose the ground speed and go. The D8 XE certified powertrain and hydraulics rebuild is up to 15%² less than the same rebuild for a mechanical transmission.

BUILT TO WORK

The electric drive powertrain has fewer moving parts than a conventional transmission. The reduced number of parts and fluids over time, plus the longer service intervals compounds up to 5%³ lower maintenance costs. Rebuilding a machine's transmission keeps a reliable machine in the fleet for less than the cost of a replacement.

Assist features help make work easier, especially for less experienced operators. Some blade and steering functions are automated so newer operators can work at productivity levels closer to their veteran counterparts. STAY SAFE: DETECT HAZARDS

Detect safety technologies deliver the power to see, sense, mitigate, and manage potential hazards by supplementing operator attention, perception, and situational awareness. Some features are available as factory-installed. Certain features are not compatible with Cat Command.

Surround Vision - Upgrade your rear camera to a Smart camera with the addition of three more cameras on the front and side of the machine. A full-color, 254 mm (10 in) dedicated touchscreen display is mounted above the front cab window display as an always-on view around the machine.
Seat Belt System
- Seat Belt Alert - audible and visual prompts for the operator. An optional external lamp serves as a clear indicator of the operator's attention to safe operating.
- Seat Belt Misuse - Identifies and alerts the operator of improper seat belt use
- Seat Belt Inhibit - Can prevent the machine from traveling if the seat belt is not fastened
Rear People Detection - When the system detects a person/people in one of the rear detection zones, it sends visual and audible alerts to the operator using the in-cab display.
Reverse Motion Inhibit - Prevents the machine from going into either forward or reverse gear when it is stationary and there is an active detection in one of the rear detection zones.
