Customers choose Van Heck for their rapid response time, wide range of capacities, 24/7 global assistance and innovative, customised solutions. Because they have such diversity in pump units, Van Heck can handle everything from dredging, salvage and offshore operations to sewer renovation, cooling water applications and floodings.
Similarly, when Van Heck rents out a machine, they know it will be running nonstop. In 2015, Van Heck deployed 20 HK700s to Serbia to drain a flooded coal mine. The mine was Serbia’s main energy source for power production, so efficiency was essential. Powered by Cat® C27 engines, the machines ran 24/7 for nine consecutive months, draining 150 million m³, or 5.3 billion cubic feet of water. That amount is equal to 60,000 Olympic swimming pools, or more than 25% the volume of the Suez Canal.
Recently, Van Heck sent three of their largest units, the HK800s (9000m³ per hour / 5300 cfm at 4.3 bar / 62 psi) along with three HK700s, (7000m³ per hour / 4120 cfm at 3.2 bar / 46 psi) to build a new port in Saudi Arabia. The HK800s were powered by the Cat C32 EU Stage V, while the HK700s used the Cat C27. The machines ran for an uninterrupted 18 months at extreme temperatures of 50 °C/122 °F, again proving their durability. “Redundancy or breakdowns are not an option,” says van Dijk. “So, choosing Cat engines is a very deliberate choice.”
FURTHER INVESTMENT IN EXPANDING THE FLEET
Van Dijk recently invested in 17 new Van Heck machines with Cat C27 Stage V and C32 Stage V engines, confident their power, reliability and emission compliance can drive high-flow, high-pressure water solutions. Due to ever-increasing demands and sparse deck space, Van Heck squeezes an enormous amount of power into a 20-ft container frame, supplying high-volume, high-pressure power in the smallest possible footprint.
Caterpillar worked with Van Heck to design the correct cooling systems for the pump unit, ensuring it could run 24/7 in extreme heat. “We’re obviously heavily investing in the cleanest, most efficient technology available,” says van Dijk. “Since we only rent – we never sell – we need the most reliable, fuelefficient, clean-as-possible pump units to supply either high-volume or high-pressure water to our customers. That’s why we choose Cat engines.”
Over the years, Van Heck and Zeppelin Power have built a strong and successful partnership together. With factory acceptance testing in house, Van Heck leans on the dealer to select the ideal engine for their operations and ensure deliveries are on time. “Our customers are definitely happy with the pump units we supply because all our diesel-driven pumps are powered by Cat engines,” says van Dijk. “We operate worldwide, from Australia to North America, from Saudi Arabia all the way up to Norway, and we need that global presence and support. So, it’s a very deliberate choice we’ve made.”
“Reliability is the main reason customers choose Van Heck, and it’s why we choose Caterpillar.”
