Edwards

Edwards, Illinois

In April 1970 Caterpillar announced they were going to build a new 600-acre sales demonstration site near Edwards, IL. The plans for this new site were set to include a 10,000 square foot office-shop building, rotating grandstands, a high-speed vehicle track, and an equipment storage facility. Before 1970, the sales demonstration site was in Marquette Heights, IL which was going to be bisected by construction of the interstate bypass scheduled for the following year. Construction of the new site near Edwards, IL was awarded to Frank Heinz Construction Co. and completion was scheduled for early 1971. The project was completed on time and we have an equipment freight logbook dating back to January 7, 1971!

Malaga

Malaga, Spain

In late 1971 the first Malaga Demo Area was opened in Spain. When the site first opened it consisted of just one main outdoor demo area, with food and beverages for the visitors being provided by a local restaurant. The typical meetings and conferences with a demo were held in local hotels initially, until a few years later, when full office and meeting facilities were built. The Malaga site coexisted for a few years with the demonstration area in Saubraz, just outside Geneva, Saubraz. That was fine, but it had to close in the winter due to bad weather. Eventually, Malaga was chosen because of good weather, suitable land on which to work and increasing demand from European Dealers who wanted to take their customers to see and test machines in a real jobsite environment year-round.
