New C3.6 delivering 173 hp (129 kW)

March 3, 2026 – Caterpillar Industrial Power Systems will showcase the strength and breadth of Caterpillar power systems and solutions which are designed to keep customers moving forward and reshape what’s possible, at CONEXPO-CON/AGG from March 3-7.

The exhibit in South Hall, stand S-80229 showcases our ongoing product strategy with the first showing of a new high horsepower 173 hp (129 kW) Cat C3.6 engine and the new power-dense C13D, both of which will meet EU Stage V and U.S EPA Tier 4 Final emissions standards.

The booth also highlights our commitment to extending engine lifecycles, including our ongoing support for customers’ aftermarket needs with Cat parts and service solutions including connectivity, condition monitoring, service replacement engines, VisionLink™ and a Cat® Reman C7 engine.

A range of optimized and fuel-flexible Cat engines will also be shown in the Festival Lot including the compact C2.2 which outputs 74 hp (55 kW), the new C3.6 delivering 173 hp (129 kW) and the power-dense series-turbocharged C18TT engine at 800 hp (597 kW).

“As the construction landscape changes, our extensive portfolio of solutions and expertise, from full-fleet jobsites through to a full range of optimized diesel engines, will help solve our customers toughest challenges,” said Steve Ferguson, senior vice president of Caterpillar Industrial Power Systems.

Extending engine lifecycles and value

Our commitment goes beyond the iron, with a wide portfolio of services and solutions on display to help customers extend the lifecycle of their engines across their fleets. From connectivity and condition monitoring to product support, timely service replacement engines, overhaul or Cat Reman options, our offerings are designed to address customers’ varied needs at each stage of the engine lifecycle.

Whether it’s an Extended Service Contract (ESC), a Customer Value Agreement (CVA), parts, repair or overhaul options, the global Cat dealer network is there to help. And an interactive display will promote the importance of a holistic approach for full-fleet jobsites – where Cat machines operate alongside other Cat-powered OEMs – with connectivity and condition monitoring for real-time equipment monitoring, proactive diagnostics and actionable insights that improve productivity, reduce downtime and lower operating costs.

The booth also features a deconstructed Cat C7 Reman engine including Cat Reman parts and end-of-life parts, also known as core. Cat Reman products help customers to extend their machine’s lifecycle, reduce waste and maintain strong performance. Fully assembled and ready to run, Cat Reman complete engines are dynamometer tested and tuned for like-new performance and fuel efficiency. With an extensive offering, from simple components to overhaul kits to complete engines, Cat Reman enables customers to reduce downtime, get back into operation fast and benefit from like-new performance on the toughest jobs.

Delivering higher power density to boost machine productivity

CONEXPO-CON-AGG 2026 marks the first showing of the new up to 173 hp (129 kW) high horsepower diesel engine, the latest addition to the C3.6 range, which also includes 74 hp (55 kW) and 142 hp (106 kW) ratings.

To meet customers’ ongoing needs for higher power density power systems, which boost machine capability without increasing size or complexity, the twin-turbo C3.6 has been designed to deliver higher torque, greater uptime, and lower total operating costs for a range of equipment including wheel excavators, dumper trucks, soil compactors, backhoe loaders, asphalt pavers and telehandlers.

To achieve up to 173 hp (129 kW) and 546 lb ft (740 Nm) at 1500 rpm of power density from the proven 3.6 liter, 4 cylinder platform, engineers have upgraded the combustion system to achieve maximum power and efficiency and have strengthened many core components.

The new offering, which meets various emissions standards including EU Stage V, U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final and Korea Stage V. It offers end users up to 1000-hour oil and fuel filter intervals and gives customers greater fuel flexibility, as the engine is compatible with B20 biodiesel, 100% HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil), and other sustainable fuels as described on cat.com.1

The high horsepower variant has been designed for low fluid consumption while delivering the required power across high, medium and low load operations. With a transparent, maintenance free aftertreatment system with no downtime, the engine is set to deliver serious power in a compact footprint for a wide range of OEMs whose equipment is the bedrock of construction sites around the world.

“The customer requirement for high power density to boost machine capability without increasing engine size or complexity has driven the launch of this new high horsepower C3.6 and the C13D which we unveiled at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2023,” said Ferguson. “Given that internal combustion engines remain the dominant power solution across global jobsites; we continue to strategically invest in advanced diesel engine technologies that help customers tackle their daily challenges.”

The booth features the C13D diesel engine platform, designed to achieve best-in-class power density, torque and fuel efficiency for optimizing the performance of heavy duty off-highway applications.

Engineered to Caterpillar’s standards for reliability and productivity, the inline, six-cylinder 13-liter engine platform will offer eight power ratings from 456 to 690 hp (340 to 515 kW) with up to 3,200 Nm of peak torque. Engine mounted aftertreatment and cooling packs

will also be available from the factory to reduce installation and validation costs. The C13D will meet the emissions standards of highly regulated territories, such as Stage V, Tier 4 Final, China Nonroad Stage IV, Korea Stage V, and Japan 2014, with models available for less regulated territories.

The Cat C13D is designed for use in a wide range of off-highway equipment, including rock crushers, screeners, and grinders; trenchers; agriculture tractors, harvesters and self-propelled sprayers; woodchippers; material-handling equipment; and large industrial pumps.

The engine platform offers up to a 20% increase in power2 and up to 25% more low speed torque3 over the previous generation of Cat engines in its power class, while extended service intervals of 1,000 hours oil and fuel filter, will reduce operating costs and downtime.

The Cat C13D engine platform enables the use of recommended renewable liquid fuels such as 100% HVO, up to B20 for models with aftertreatment and B100 for models without aftertreatment1.

Finally, for customers considering a range of power solutions for their equipment, the booth features a C9.3B fitted with a diesel-electric power unit. The C9.3B industrial diesel engine is offered in ratings ranging from 335-456 hp (250-340 kW) @ 1800-2200 rpm, meeting Stage V, Tier 4 Final, China Nonroad (NR) Stage IV, Japan 2014, and Korea Stage V emissions standards. With a full list of configurable options and an engine-mounted aftertreatment, the C9.3B is an easy-to-install option that offers the power of larger engine platforms in a smaller engine package.

The diesel-electric power unit is a factory integrated solution simplifying installation for the customer. An ideal solution for many industrial applications requiring robust diesel-electric power, the heavy duty C9.3B engine fitted with a 350/420 kVA alternator is designed to operate in harsh environments and can provide secondary power for mobile machines such as crushers and screeners.

Providing 52-600 kVA across the C3.6 to C13 product range, the diesel-electric power unit will be available from late 2026. The optimized pairing is ingress protection (IP) sealed to both dust and liquids to maximize uptime and low maintenance in harsh conditions and is supported by the Cat global dealer network.
