Austal Engages Caterpillar Inc. for Global Fleet Management and Supply Chain Optimization
Dedicated Support Bolsters Shipyard’s Services for New and Existing Australian Government and Civilian Vessels
Houston, Texas — Caterpillar Marine and Austal, a global defense prime contractor and major shipbuilder with its primary shipbuilding facility in Western Australia, announced today the execution of a Global Value Agreement (GVA) for Austal’s worldwide footprint of existing and new vessels that support defense and civilian applications. The GVA with Caterpillar ensures comprehensive parts, service and maintenance support to optimize supply chain efficiency and reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) for greater uptime and availability.
Austal’s GVA covers new and existing power solutions for the Commonwealth of Australia’s fleets. As the agreement provides a fixed-rate commitment for new engines for a period of three years and supports timely part availability for streamlined maintenance protocols globally, it promotes predictable TCO for budgetary support. A dedicated Caterpillar fleet manager will identify and coordinate the most efficient, streamlined maintenance intervals with Cat® dealers worldwide – including Energy Power Systems Australia (EPSA), Hastings Deering, WesTrac WA, Phú Thái Cat, Monark Equipment Corporation and Massy Cat – and an exclusive supply chain manager will coordinate new engine orders, supporting public sector procurement goals and mission readiness.
“This global agreement with Caterpillar supports our long-term vision to achieve greater operational and cost efficiencies across the government and commercial sectors we serve,” said Brent Carey, head of procurement for Austal.
“Our GVAs offer shipyards the ability to provide a single, accountable framework to governmental customers for lifecycle support that promotes consistent service experiences in every theater as well as higher availability and faster response times,” commented Andy Law, vice president of Caterpillar Marine. “Our GVA aligns proactive maintenance, connected analytics and clearly defined service levels to help public vessel operators plan with confidence. The result is predictable TCO, reduced downtime and transparent performance data that supports compliance and stewardship. It’s how we leverage global scale to help ensure operational readiness.”
