Clay Thompson was named President of Cat Financial Insurance Services in 2013. The company provides insurance and risk management products and services that help Caterpillar, its dealers, their customers manage business risk.
Clay joined the Caterpillar legal department in 1997, and held positions of increasing responsibility, including General Counsel to the Asia Pacific Division (Singapore) and to the Financial Products Division (Nashville). After leaving the Legal Department in 2005, Clay held a variety of leadership positions elsewhere in Caterpillar, including Beijing, China, where he managed Emerging Markets Strategy; Tokyo, Japan, where he led the Cat Japan’s Product Management Group; and Washington DC where he managed Caterpillar’s Corporate Government Affairs Department.
Clay graduated from Central College in Pella, Iowa, with a bachelor’s degree in English. He holds a JD from the University of Iowa and an MBA with concentrations in International Business and Economics from the University of Chicago.
Clay is a past Chairman of the Board of the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce. He also serves on the Advisory Council for Tennessee Promise, the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of Middle Tennessee and the Central College Board of Trustees.
