Clay Thompson was named President of Cat Financial Insurance Services in 2013. The company provides insurance and risk management products and services that help Caterpillar, its dealers, their customers and original equipment manufacturers manage their business risk.
Clay joined Caterpillar in 1997, after practicing law in Davenport, Iowa. He has held several positions in Caterpillar’s Legal Department, including General Counsel to the Asia Pacific Division (Singapore) and to the Financial Products Division, in Nashville. He also has cross-functional experience outside Legal, having worked in Beijing, China, where he managed Emerging Markets Strategy Integration; Tokyo, where he led the Cat Japan’s Product Management function; and Washington D.C. where he managed Caterpillar’s Corporate Government Affairs Department.
Clay graduated from Central College in Pella, Iowa, with a bachelor’s degree in English. He holds a JD from the University of Iowa and an MBA with concentrations in International Business and Economics from the University of Chicago.
