Overview
Cat Base Edges
Cat® base edge systems go through a series of carefully controlled manufacturing processes to deliver improved strength, durability and long life. They come completely welded and assembled with no need for preheating, dramatically shortening your installation and replacement time.
INCREASE DURABILITY
Created with a consistent heat-treat process to increase strength and resist abrasion. Shot blasting removes impurities that can cause inclusions on a weld, and controlled cooling reduces the chance of stress points.
SAVE INSTALLATION AND REPLACEMENT TIME
Butterbead is applied to the back side of the base edge and the top strap of the corner adapter, so you can weld the edge onto the bucket without preheating.
IMPROVED MACHINE PERFORMANCE
Base edges are designed by Caterpillar engineers for improved performance on specific machines. Three shapes and three levels of build for your application.

Base Edge Systems for Wheel Loaders
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What are Cat® base edge systems for wheel loaders?
Cat® base edge systems are structural components attached to the bucket lip that provide a durable foundation for cutting edges and wear parts. They help protect the bucket while supporting efficient material loading and handling.
What are the benefits of using Cat® base edge systems?
Cat® base edge systems are designed to deliver increased strength, durability, and help ensure long service life. Their robust construction helps reduce wear on the bucket and supports consistent performance in demanding applications.
How do base edge systems help reduce bucket wear and maintenance?
Base edge systems act as a protective layer between the bucket and material, absorbing impact and abrasion. This helps extend the life of the bucket, reduce repair frequency, and lower overall maintenance costs.
When should a base edge system be replaced?
Base edge systems should be replaced when wear, cracking, or deformation begins to affect performance or protection. Regular inspections help ensure the bucket continues to operate efficiently and avoid costly damage.
How do I choose the right base edge system for my wheel loader?
The right base edge system depends on your machine model, bucket configuration, and application. A Cat dealer can help you select the best option to ensure proper fit, durability, and performance in your operating conditions.
