Introducing the EDGE Innovate SCREENPRO S16 SCALPING SCREEN.
The SCREENPRO S16 mobile scalping screen is the company’s latest innovation. Designed to be both compact and powerful, the S16 can process a variety of materials, including aggregates, construction debris and recycled materials. It’s mainly used for the separation of aggregate material into distinct sizes for products like concrete, landscaping stone and road base material. The S16 is a mobile unit with remote functionality that enables safe control of tracking, conveyor speed and sequential start-up from distances up to 100m.
Changing the industry with power and versatility.
A scalping screen separates crushed stone into three different-sized grades: oversize, midsize and fine material. Not all stone is equal, as unique attributes are important for each application.
“With the S16, different types of media are used, depending on the size, shape, complexity and humidity of the product you want,” says EDGE Innovate Global Sales Manager, Tom Connolly. “EDGE Innovate specialises in those variables, making sure that the type of media selected is best processed for your application.”
The S16 features a wire mesh deck for fines material, which has proven to be the most durable. A working quarry is packed with sizeable equipment. The S16 is mobile and compact (16’ by 5’), allowing it to work nimbly alongside large machines like crushers, breakers, feeders and trucks. The mobile track drive provides maneuverability on rough quarry terrain.
A resilient engine for rough conditions.
EDGE Innovate has used Cat® engines in most of its machines, since the company’s inception 15 years ago. The S16 is powered by the Cat® C3.6 100kW (134HP) dual rated EPA Tier 4 Final & EU Stage V engine. A single C3.6 is used to provide propulsion, conveyor belts and screening of the machine. The reliability and durability of the C3.6 is a key selling point for machines used in rough quarry conditions.
“The Caterpillar engine provides ample power for the machine to operate with track drive propulsion,” says Connolly. “That means the machine can be used in quarries or more populous locations like warehouses. It’ll likely stay put for the life of the job but can be easily moved when it’s required.”
One of the most important features of the Cat C3.6 is its ability to maintain performance under changing ambient and load conditions. “We have machines working in dusty warehouses or places with high humidity,” says Connolly. “The C3.6 performs regardless of the situation, and that’s key for our end users.”
EDGE Innovate’s engineering team worked with Caterpillar and Finning engineers to maximise performance. EDGE Innovate’s OEMs can feel secure that the C3.6 will perform because Caterpillar conducts an installation audit on the first of any new machine. Finning engineers work with OEMs to test that the engine has the right specifications for each application. “That’s an important aspect for us,” says Connolly. “We may have created a design element that isn’t favorable to the optimal performance of the engine. With the help of Finning, we can look at the performance of the engine, based on specs like oil flow, RPMs and temperature. Then, we can make the right adjustments here at the factory.”
A collaboration that helps crush the competition.
Creating a superior product is only half the work. Equipment needs to be designed to fit a customer’s needs and supported if something goes wrong. That’s where the global Caterpillar dealer network comes in. Caterpillar helps deliver a high level of product support in the many markets EDGE Innovate serves. “It’s the path of least resistance for us,” says Connolly. “Our relationship with Caterpillar and the relationships our customers can have with Caterpillar go hand-in-hand. The fact that our customers know and trust Caterpillar is one of the main reasons we continue to choose them for our engines.”
Finning engineers played a major role in the design of the S16. “If we don’t have the knowledge to get the maximum out of an engine, we’re lost in the water,” says Connolly. “Finning advises us exactly what we should be doing.”
Coming to a quarry near you.
EDGE Innovate has sold S16 units in North Africa, the Caribbean islands, Ireland and the Philippines. The rental market represents an ever-increasing percentage of overall machines distributed in North America. EDGE distribution partners take advantage of short-term rentals to generate additional revenue. “If there’s a location with a new road being built, a quarry with a particular stone will see high demand for months,” says Connolly. “Contractors and municipalities will need a machine quickly to size that material. Our distribution partners will offer a rental of the S16 to complete the job.”
“The C3.6 performs regardless of the situation, and that’s key for our end users.”
